The Events Dedicated to Khojali Genocide at Foreign Branches of the Centre of Multiculturalism

A range of events dedicated to the 27th anniversary of Khojali genocide have been held at foreign branches of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism (BICM) as well as at the universities where the course “Azerbaijani Multiculturalism” is taught.

The BICM press service stated that the martyrs were commemorated with a moment of silence at the events where the terrors of Khojali genocide were talked about. The tragedy of Khojali was appraised as the pain of the entire world and as the crime targeted at the civilization, along with being the wound of the Azerbaijani people. The events declared the necessity of charging the people who committed the genocide and the importance of bringing the criminals to account before the international court of justice.

Dresden Branch of the Centre held two events in these frames. It was mentioned at the events that Khojali is an incurable wound in the Azerbaijani people’s soul. The presentations made at both the meetings delivered the realities of Khojali to the guests as a culmination point with the conflict in Nagorni Garabagh as its background. It should be mentioned that the German population has not forgotten the conflict of Nagorni Garabagh, yet are less informed about the consequences of the war waged by Armenia against Azerbaijan. That is why, it is necessary to provide profound information on the ethnic cleansing and territorial changes carried out as a result of war as well as the bitterness the Azerbaijani people have been exposed to and the blows it has received. Especially, when every February the sufferings of 1945 in Dresden are recalled, bringing to mind the genocide of Khojali and drawing parallels with it make a clearer and more impressive presentation of the events possible. Yet, the result is identical. A war is not a solution to any problem. A war always means the great suffering of innocent people.

Today the world has started to recognize Khojali tragedy, and Azerbaijan’s friends are sharing our people’s sorrow. Both the Azerbaijani President Ilham ALiyev and the First Vice-president of the country Mehriban Aliyeva have had great merits in the adoption of extremely serious documents related to Khojali tragedy in the legislative organs of a number of countries of the world.

It should be reminded that Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism has branches in Russia, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Moldova, Israel, Bulgaria and the USA.
