The Participants of the VI International Winter School of Multiculturalism at Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism

 

On 17 February the participants of the VI International Winter School of Multiculturalism visited Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism where they had a meeting with the Chair of the Board of Trustees of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism, Rector of Azerbaijan University of Languages, Academician Kamal Abdulla and the Head of the Department of Interethnic Relations, Multiculturalism and Religious Issues of the Presidential Administration, Professor Etibar Najafov.

The Acting Executive Director of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism Ravan Hassanov said that the participants of the VI International Winter School of Multiculturalism have received profound information on Azerbaijan’s ancient history, culture, policy, and familiarized themselves closely with the multicultural environment in our country. The participants of the project have visited the State Committee on Work with Religious Organizations, the Caucasian Muslims Office, also met with the heads and members of the diplomatic representations functioning in our country. The Head of the Department of Interethnic Relations, Multiculturalism and Religious Issues of the Presidential Administration, Professor Etibar Najafov said that in the modern period Azerbaijan is one of the key centres of multiculturalism. Today multiculturalism is the state policy in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan has been a multicultural, tolerant state for centuries. Here the ethnic and cultural values of the national minorities have always been maintained, important actions have been taken by the state in this direction. The policy of multiculturalism of Azerbaijan plays an important role in the solution of the social, economic and cultural issues of the national minorities in the country. The interest of the participants of the project in Azerbaijani multiculturalism has brought them here. They increase their theoretical knowledge through practical knowledge.

The Chair of the Board of Trustees of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism Kamal Abdulla stated that coming together through this project the youth from different places of the world consolidate their knowledge on Azerbaijan, familiarize themselves with the multicultural, tolerant environment in our country and interact with their peers.  Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism has affliates in 8 countries. Summer and Winter Schools enable the youth learning the course “Azerbaijani Multiculturalism” from 18 universities of the world and 38 higher educational institutions of Azerbaijan to see all, that they have learnt theoretically, with their own eyes in our country.

Kamal Abdulla also introduced two new co-chairs of the Club of the Young Friends of Azerbaijan – a Portugese Joao Enricke and German Christen Bossauer who are also the participants of the VI International Winter School of Multiculturalism.

Further, the pariticpants of the project shared their impressions related to Azerbaijan. The participants of the Winter School, who said that all that they saw in Azerbaijan rose great interest in them and left an non-erasable trace in their memories, also pointed out that they would like to return to our country. They highly appreciated the multicultural and tolerant ambiance in Azerbaijan.

Further, the participants of the meeting watched a film on our country developed by the Club of the Young Friends of Azerbaijan.

It should be reminded that the International Summer and Winter Schools of Multiculturalism are being held by President Ilham Aliyev’s recommendation and organizational support of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism.

The VI International Winter School of Multiculturalism is attended by about 30 students from the leading universities of 16 countries – Azerbaijan, Austria, Afghanistan, Bulgaria, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Great Britain and Ukraine.
