A Representation of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism Opened in the USA

 

A representation of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism was opened in the USA. In this connection an event was held in the city of Los Angeles, the USA.

The event held by the joint organizational support of the Consulate General and Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism was attended by the consuls general of foreign countries, figures of science and culture, leaders of religious communities, journalists, representatives of the Azerbaijani, Jewish, Turkish, Korean and other communities.

Nasimi Aghayev, the Consul General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles, who opened the event, called the opening of the representation of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism in the USA a significant event. Speaking of the traditions of multiculturalism and tolerance deeply rooted in Azerbaijan he pointed out that these values have existed in our country for centuries. N.Aghayev focused the attention to the facts that in our country everybody enjoys equal rights irrespective of their religious and national identities, and people co-exist peacefully, practise their faith, customs and traditions freely, and this unique environment of tolerance is further consolidated day by day under the wise and farsighted leadership of the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

In his speech the Acting Director of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism Ravan Hasanov gave information about Azerbaijan’s policy of multiculturalism and spoke of the activities of the Centre. He focused the attention to the fact that the Azerbaijani leadership attaches special attention to this aspect and it was by President Ilham Aliyev’s Order that Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism was established in 2014. R.Hasanov, who underlined that the establishment of the Centre was mainly aimed at the study of the traditions of multiculturalism of Azerbaijan as well as the world experience in this respect and the implementation of the advocacy of the Azerbaijani model in the entire world, stated that the Centre has implemented numerous projects in Vatican, London, Berlin, Bern, Helsinki, Jakarta and other cities within the three years of its activities. Pointing out the fact that in 8 countries – Moldova, Russia, Georgia, Portugal, Italy, Israel, Bulgaria, Germany - representations of the Centre have been opened, he stated that the opening of the representation in the USA today has created wide opportunities for the study of the Azerbaijani model and the exchange of experiences between the two countries.

In her speech Jannah Scott, the Head of the representation of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism in the USA, who held a high post in the US Presidential Administration in 2009-2017, emphasized her satisfaction from being elected the leader of the first representation of the Centre in the USA. She mentioned about her several visits to Azerbaijan and her close familiarization with the environment of tolerance in our country and stated her confidence that the representation will work successfully to deliver these traditions to the US community more profoundly.

Speaking of Azerbaijan’s traditions of multiculturalism and tolerance, the Board members of the representation of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism in the USA – one of the key leaders of the Korean community in the USA, the Executive Director of the Faith-based And Community Consolidation Organization Heypin Im and the Chair of the Council of Pakistan Adnan Khan stated that the Azerbaijani model of tolerance can be an example for the entire world.

Further, Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of the representation of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism in the USA was signed between the Head of the above-mentioned representation Jannah Scott and the Acting Executive Director of the Centre Ravan Hasanov.

The attendents of the event also watched a brief documentary on Azerbaijan’s traditions of multiculturalism and listened to pieces of Azerbaijani music.
