On 17 February there was a meeting with the participants of the VI International Winter School of Multiculturalism at the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations.

At the meeting the Chair of the State Committee spoke of the importance of the project. He said that the VI International Winter School of Multiculturalism is of great importance in the guarantee of relations among the civilizations.

The students got information on the environment of tolerance in our country, the multicultural values inherent to our nation, the relations of cooperation based on mutual respect and trust among different religions and confessions. The Chair of the Committee pointed out that for centuries the representatives of different religious confessions have lived independently and under the conditions of mutual understanding, our nation has always highly appreciated and treated with respect their religion, culture and that the state has regularly rendered financial assistance to Muslim and non-Muslim religious communities.

Mubariz Gurbanli gave information to the participants of the meeting also on the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, of Garabag. He said that Azerbaijan has been exposed to millitary aggression and  20 per cent of our territory has been occupied by Armenia, over 1 million Azerbaijanis have been ousted from their native lands. The Armenian side, the groups under the influence of the Armenian lobby abroad try to hide this aggression. “That is why, the visit of the youth like you, of such groups to Azerbaijan with an intention of friendship is of great importance for us,” noted the Chair of the Committee.

The participants of the Winter School expressed their satisfaction from their familiarization with our country, the multicultural and tolerant ambiance they have seen in Azerbaijan.

The participants of the VI International Winter School of Multiculturalism, who are from different countries, were presented the publications of the State Committee about our historical-religious monuments exposed to the Armenian vandalism in our occupied territory as well as about the Azerbaijani realities, the environment of tolerance in our country.

It should be reminded that the VI International Winter School of Multiculturalism “Dialogue Among Civilizations: New Challenges” held by President Ilham Aliyev’s recommendation and organizational support of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism is attended by about 30 students from the leading universities of 16 countries – Azerbaijan, Austria, Afghanistan, Bulgaria, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Great Britain and Ukraine.
