The President of the World Congress of Ukrainians on a Visit to the Centre of Multiculturalism

 

The delegation headed by the President of the World Congress of Ukrainians Eugene Czolij visited Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism. The Acting Executive Director of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism Ravan Hasanov received the guests and gave them thorough information on the activities of the Centre, and our country’s multicultural ambiance which is successfully continued.

Ravan Hasanov stated that President Ilham Aliyev attaches great importance to the maintenance of multiculturalism. The present level of the ambiance of tolerance in Azerbaijan is the result of the policy pursued by the Head of our state, his equal attitude towards all the citizens irrespective of their religion, language and national identity. Multiculturalism is a state policy, lifestyle in Azerbaijan. With its multicultural and tolerant lifestyle Azerbaijan is an example to the world. He pointed out that the policy of tolerance pursued by the state of Azerbaijan lays foundations for the further strengthening of friendship and fraternity among the ethnic and religious communities residing in our country. All this is the result of the successful continuation of the policy founded by the National Leader Heydar Aliyev. The Acting Executive Director of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism also spoke of the areas of activities of the institution he represents. It was emphasized that the main goal of the Centre is to provide the maintenance of tolerance and cultural, religious, linguistic diversity as well as to present Azerbaijan as the centre of multiculturalism in the world, study and promote the existing multicultural models. The guests were also told that today the course “Azerbaijani Multiculturalism” is being taught at about twenty universities of the world. Baku International Centre of Baku has branches in nine countries, and the final branch was opened in the USA at the beginning of this year.

The President of the World Congress of Ukrainians Eugene Czolij stated that a multinational, multicultural, and tolerant country like Azerbaijan encourages the other countries with its own example and necessitates the use of its experience. The visitor expressed his wish to open a branch of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism in his country and also found it appropriate to teach the course “Azerbaijani Multiculturalism” at the Ukrainian Universities. The meeting was attended also by the Director of the World Congress of Ukrainians Mission to International Organizations in Brussels Marina Yaroshevich, the representative of the Ukrainian Embassy to the Republic of Azerbaijan Oleksandr Senchenko and the leader of the Ukrainian Congress in Azerbaijan Yuriy Osadchenko.

It should be noted that the World Congress of Ukrainians is an international diaspora organization protecting the interests of 20 million Ukrainians and operates in 53 countries of the world. The World Congress of Ukrainians was created in 1967, and the organization which was re-formed 2003 has a special consultative status as an NGO in the UN Economic and Social Council.
