The Presentation of the Book “Jewish Life in Azerbaijan”

 

On 4 July Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism hosted the presentation of the book “Jewish Life in Azerbaijan” by the leader of the Mountain Jews’ Religious Community in Baku Milikh Yevdayev.

According to AZERTAC, the Acting Executive Director of BICM Ravan Hasanov gave information about the book. He stated that the book includes articles on the customs and traditions, culture, lifestyle of the Jews living in Azerbaijan as well as the Azerbaijani-Israeli relations.

The book consists of the collection of Milikh Yevdayev’s articles published in the newspaper “Jewish Journal” released in Los Angeles, one of the greatest Jewish newspapers in the USA.

The Head of the Department of Interethnic Relations, Multiculturalism and Religious Issues of the Presidential Administration Etibar Najafov stated that the multicultural ambiance in Azerbaijan is highly appraised in the international realm. The tolerance of Azerbaijan has turned into an example.

The Chair of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Mubariz Gurbanli spoke of Azerbaijan’s traditions of multiculturalism and tolerance. He pointed out that this publication also states everybody’s peaceful co-existence irrespective of their national and religious identity.

The Archbishop of Baku and Azerbaijan Eparchy of the Russian Orthodox Church Aleksandr Ishein, the Deputy Chair of Department at the Caucasian Muslims’ Office Fuad Nurullayev, the Chair of Baku Religious Community of European Jews Aleksandr Sharovski, the Rector of the Theology Institute Jeyhun Mammadov, the Chair of the Alban-Udi Christian Religious Community Robert Mobili and others made their reports and spoke of the importance of the new publication. It was stated that the book gives profound information on Armenian-Azerbaijani, Nagorni Garabagh conflict, Armenia’s military attack against our country, the tragedy of the 20th January and the horrible tragedies inflicted on our people, such as Khojali Genocide.

Further Milikh Yevdayev, the author of the book made his report and stated that the representatives of all the nations in Azerbaijan consider themselves decent citizens of the country where they reside. Since, Azerbaijan enjoys quite good conditions, and pleasant attitude. He also said that these issues are especially underlined in his book.
