The VII International Summer School of Multiculturalism Starts

 

On 29 July the project of the VII International Summer School of Multiculturalism titled “Baku Process 10 Years: as a Contribution to the Development of Intercultural Dialogue” will be launched by the organizational support of Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism.

Since its establishment Baku International Centre of Multiculturalism has been realizing important projects associated with the presentation of Azerbaijani multiculturalism to the world, its advocacy and promotion on the international arena as targeted by President Ilham Aliyev.

The International Winter and Summer Schools of Multiculturalism, which have turned into a tradition and organized regularly twice a year, are one of the significant projects of the Centre.

The VII International Summer School of Multiculturalism, which will be attended by the students from foreign and local universities who studied the courses “Azerbaijani Multiculturalism” and “Introduction to Multiculturalism”, will operate from 29 July to 9 August in the districts of Oghuz, Shaki, Gabala and Ismayilli, along with Baku.

It should be noted that the project of the International Winter and Summer Schools of Multiculturalism is the logical continuation of the project “Teaching the Course ‘Azerbaijani Multiculturalism’ at Foreign and National Universities”. The International Winter and Summer Schools of Multiculturalism organized for the students learning the course ‘Azerbaijani Multiculturalism’ in the educational frames at 19 prestigious universities of the world and 38 leading universities of Azerbaijan are aimed to enable the youth to see all that they learnt theoretically with their own eyes in our country where multicultural and tolerant values are maintained.

Thirty five students from the leading universities of such countries as Azerbaijan and Georgia, India, Latvia, Israel, Moldova, Japan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Romania, Germany, Belorussia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Columbia, Ecuador, Indonesia, Serbia, Portugal, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Montenegro, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Italy, Turkey, Palestine, Mexico, China, Estonia are expected to participate in the VII International Summer School of Multiculturalism. The participants of the Summer School will attend lectures on the multicultural state, tolerant ambiance, ethnic-religious diversity in Azerbaijan, the peaceful coexistence of the representatives of different nationalities and distinct confessions in our country.

During the Summer School the participants are going to meet the Chair of the Board of Trustees of BICM, Academician Kamal Abdullayev, the Head of the Inter-ethnic Relations, Multiculturalism and Religious Issues of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Professor Etibar Najafov, the Chair of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Mubariz Gurbanli, the Chair of the Caucasian Muslims’ Office Sheikh ul-Islam Allahshukur Pasahzadeh and the heads and members of the diplomatic  representations functioning in Azerbaijan.

The students are also to visit the Martyrs’ Alley and the Alley of Honours, Gobustan, Atashgah (the Fire-worshippers’ Temple), the Icherishahar (the Inner City); in Oghuz: the Synagogues of Upper and Lower Quarters, Khalkahl Forest; in Shaki: the Caravanserai, the complex of Khan’s Palace; in Gabala: the settlement of Nizh where the Udis live, the Alban-Udi Christian Church, the “Tufandagh” Summer and Winter Tourism Resort Complex and in the District of Ismayilli: the village of Ivanovka where the Malakans live.

As a result of the Summer and Winter Schools of Multiculturalism, which has turned into a tradition, there is a platform of interaction and strong lobby consisting of intellectual youth supporting the just course of our country in the example of the young friends of Azerbaijan abroad and their close circle. This process, which is going on intensively, proves that the targets defined by President Ilham Aliyev to present Azerbaijan to the world are being successfully realized.
